The Belgian revolution and the very liberal constitution of the new Belgian state were viewed with considerable sympathy in the press of the Danubian principalities. After the revolution was crushed in Rumania in 1848, some of the people fled to the West, including Belgium, and it is in that country that Cetan Boliac and C.A. Rosetti published La république roumaine and L'Etoile du Danube.
